Finding Purpose in Your Pain

Finding Purpose in Your Pain

Scripture For the Week
    Scripture For the Week

    1 Corinthians 10:13 (AMP)

No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].

      Speak it Forth

Pain is only an event and not a person. I am not my past, and my pain does not define me. I have purpose.

        Take Action

Ask God to show you the lesson you must learn from your past pains.

If you have ever had cause to reflect on past experiences and years gone by, chances are that there would be recollection of pain that you still grieve about; loved ones lost; false accusations you had to bear, relationships gone sour, businesses gone down, opportunities lost, failing health, name it. It could be anything.

I encourage you to flip the grief coin and ask the Lord: what is my assignment in this pain? What is the purpose in it all?

You see, for every experience, there is a message for someone, a ministry for others. What experiences have you had? Have you lost anything? What did you gain in return? What do you think you gained?

If you think deep, you’ll realize that you gained something. More focus? Better plans? New relationships? Deeper relationship with God? Closer family connections? Mentorship?

I recall my first meeting with my team at work in Jan 2018. At the point of asking them to take the pain to focus on their families in 2018, I broke down in tears when I remembered some things I got wrong in previous years and the pain experienced. However, I look back today, and I am grateful for the purpose in that pain; valuing family more, taking a decision to spend more time with family, sharing my experiences to guide others.

The year presents many opportunities, many of which would be to maximize the not too positive experiences in previous years and be intentional about living a purposeful life.

        Speak it Forth (Confession):
Pain is only an event and not a person. I am not my past, and my pain does not define me. I have purpose.

        Take the Step (Action):
Ask God to show you the lesson you must learn from your past pains.
